ACTIVITIES
Seminars, Grading
& Other Special Events
The BCKF currently organizes the following seminars and special events:
Shinpan Workshops
Brief shinpan workshops are held prior to
the start of all BCKF taikai.
Shinpan Seminar
An in depth instructional seminar for shinpan and shinpan candidates
is held on an annual basis. This event also provides 'hands-on' shiai
experience for all participants.
Kata Seminar
We strive to organize at least two kata seminars per year to correspond
with the CKF grading schedule.
Kata Demonstrations
The BCKF has mandated that all
sponsored taikai must include a kata demonstration. It is our hope
that this will help to reinforce the importance of practicing kata
within the membership.
Kyu Grading
This year, we finalized the details of an annual
kyu grading event. The grading will be up to 2-kyu.
Women's Practice
Harnessing the momentum of the recent World Championships, members
of the past Team Canada have started a
monthly open practice for girls and women in bogu at all levels. The
goal is to increase the quantity and quality of the women players in
B.C.
Ted Davis Memorial Seminar
This annual seminar is generously
hosted by the University of Victoria Kendo Club in memory of their
founder, Ted Davis-Sensei. Besides the standard hands-on kendo topics,
an emphasis
on the science of kendo is presented.
